Chain O Lakes Report

June 20th, 2016

With all the warm weather that we have had for the last several days, the summer patterns are in full effect. Also an increase in boat traffic has moved a lot of the fish towards deeper structure. I would recommend trying your luck on Dake and Minor Lakes fishing the deepest weeds you can find. Knowing this helps in locating them as well as choosing the best lure and bait for the conditions

Walleye: Blue sky’s with no clouds in sight has made the walleye fishing very tough this week. Casting diving crankbaits (ShadRaps, Flicker Shads) over and through cabbage beds of 8-12' has produced very well this past week. Opportunities come during lowest light periods or cloudy patches that are turning the fish on. Jig anglers are finding very good success using minnow, leeches and crawlers. The night bite has not been as good yet, but will improve over the next few weeks.

Northern Pike: This extremely warm weather is good pike weather! Pike taking spinnerbaits (War Eagle) and swimbaits. Live bait anglers very successful on chubs and suckers, 6-12' weeds.

Largemouth Bass: The bass on the Chain of Lakes have been in an aggressive mood! We caught a 20"er on a ISG Super Salty Stick wacky worm with several others from 17-20 “. Slow moving baits as well as pre-rigged plastic worms ticking weed tops of 5-8'. Top-water action has been outstanding during low light time periods

Bluegills: Very Good. Lots of small bluegill have been proving plenty of action for anglers looking to have a lot of fun. Waxworms, and small red leaf worms are working well.  Catch a bunch, but keep only a few; leave some for the next time out.

Smallmouth Bass: Best lure choices has been dragging wacky worms, drop shot and tubes. Fish moved away from shallow spawning areas to next deep breaks. Rapala crankbaits that dive to 8-10' in natural colors and craw patterns are working .

Musky: Seen one musky this week, came when a client was reeling in a bluegill.

Despite very warm water temps , fish seem to be willing to provide some action if your willing to put in the time. Temps forecasted into the mid 80's for the coming week, expect more from our bass, and pike reports and with some top-water coming into play.

September 6th 2015

Despite it being labor day weekend. The bass where actually cooperating. We managed to catch several bass for the 4 hour guide trip.  The bass are still in the 15' depth zones. Try dragging a tube or wacky worm for your best chances. Drop shots will also product plenty of action

August 31st 2015

The bite on the Waupaca Chain of Lakes has been outstanding this summer and still continues to be hot!!! We have been averaging about 30-40 fish per day with a mixed bag of Largemouth, Smallemouth Bass and some decent Northern Pike.

Largemouth Bass

Fishing for bass has been a blast. Last week I went out with a couple of clients early in the week and we caught over 30 bass in six hour's. People are always asking me what my favorite time of year to fish and I always say late June and early July.

This is the fun time of year. But the rules are the same. Find green weeds or cover next to deep water and you'll find some really nice largemouth bass. Bring lots of different kinds of bait and throw it all at them and let them tell you what they want. Dragging a senko on the bottom has been very productive and when the bite has been getting a little tougher when the sun starts to get high in sky.. try a small robo worm on a drop shot rig.

Northern Pike

The pike have been very consistent through the last few weeks. If your not catching bass, the northern pike are very eager and willing to chase down a fast moving spinner bait worked along the 6' - 10' Depth zones.
